NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the strategically important Bogibeel bridge, India's longest rail-road bridge , over the Brahmaputra river at Bogibeel near Dibrugarh in Assam.

新德里消息：莫迪总理周二为博吉比尔大桥揭幕，大桥位于阿萨姆邦迪布鲁加尔附近的布拉马普特拉河上，是印度最长的铁路桥，具有重要的战略意义。

Addressing a rally after inaugurating the bridge, PM Modi said that Bogibeel will strengthen the country's defence prowess with movement of vehicles and trains.
Built at an estimated cost of over Rs 5,000 crore, the 4.94-km-long double-decker bridge is expected to significantly enhance India's defence capability by ensuring faster movement of troops and supplies to Arunachal Pradesh, which borders China.

为大桥揭幕后，莫迪总理发表了讲话，称博济比尔大桥是公路铁路两用大桥，该桥的开通增强了印度的国防实力。
博济比尔大桥全长4.94公里，是一座双层大桥，估计造价超过5000亿卢比，大桥开通后可以确保向与中国接壤的阿鲁纳恰尔邦更快的运送军队和物资，大大地提高了印度的国防能力。

"The bridge will enhance the national security of the eastern region by facilitating swift movement of defence forces and their equipment. It was constructed in such a way that even a fighter jet can land on it in case of emergency," a source said.
A senior Army official had earlier said the biggest advantage of the bridge will be easy movement of troops from southern to northern bank.

“大桥建成后，安全部队和物资能够迅速行动，加强了印度东部地区地国家安全。根据大桥的建造标准，紧急情况下，可以降落战斗机。”一位消息人士称。
一名军方高级官员早些时候曾表示，这座大桥最大的优点是，可以帮助部队迅速从南岸到达北岸。

"This means travelling to the farthest point of India's border with China will be shortened by several hundred kilometers," he had said.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) chief public relations officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma added that the bridge will provide logistical support for the Indian Army manning the border.

China has been laying new roads and improving its overall infrastructure along the nearly 4,000 km long border with India.
The massive infrastructure development by the neighbouring country has prompted India to ramp up infrastructure on its side.
