China’s credit rating has been downgraded by Moody’s for the first time in almost 30 years over fears that slowing growth and rising debts will weaken the world’s second largest economy.

The agency lowered China’s sovereign rating by one notch to A1 from Aa3 putting it in the same category as countries such as Japan and Israel. The outlook was raised to stable from negative.

Moody’s said the downgrade reflected its expectations that “China’s financial strength will erode somewhat over the coming years with economy-wide debt continuing to rise as potential growth slows”.

First of all don't over-react. This one notch drop is literally going from something like a 0.01% default rate to something like a 0.3% default rate. Why exactly would a sovereign government that can create its own money debt-free from nothing default on its debt?

Government debt at 40 per cent of GDP is not high at all. Most Western countries would be ecstatically happy to have that low rate. Of course I'm not sure how accurate the Chinese government figures are.

Every government lies about their figures the US government lies the Chinese probably lie too but it doesn't matter the exact figure the Chinese economy is still growing at a huge rate and every year thousands if not millions of people are lifting themselves out of poverty the middle class is increasing the living standards are rising those are the important factors same cannot be said about US.
