China, Japan extract combustible ice from seafloor

BEIJING: Commercial development of the globe's huge reserves of a frozen fossil fuel known as "combustible ice" has moved closer to reality after Japan and China successfully extracted the material from the seafloor off their coastlines.

日本和中国成功从海底开采可燃冰后，这种称为“可燃冰”且蕴藏丰富的冰冻化石燃料的商业化开发更接近了现实。

But experts said today that large-scale production remains many years away and if not done properly could flood the atmosphere with climate-changing greenhouse gases.
