NEW DELHI: The Indian economy slowed sharply in the January-March quarter to 6.1%, down from 7% in the previous quarter, while the overall pace of growth in 2016-17 moderated to a three-year low of 7.1%, according to data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Wednesday. Economists said the dip was due to the impact of the government move to scrap some high value notes in November last year hurting sectors such as construction.

根据印度中央统计局周三发布的数据，印度经济1-3月的增速，从前一季度的7%，急剧放缓至6.1%。

经济学家表示，这一放缓是印度政府去年11月开始废除大额纸币造成的。废钞令对某些行业造成了损失。

Purely based on the rate of quarterly growth, the Indian economy may have ceded its place as the fastest growing major economy in the world to China, which expanded 6.9% during the January-March period in 2017.

从该季度的增速来看，印度经济也许把世界增速最快主要经济体的地位让给了中国，后者在今年1-3月的经济增速扩大至6.9%

Good. The drop in growth rate is not too bad. This effect of Demonetization will be short lived but the long term effects of cashless and transparent economy and corruption free business with tax levies would far outweigh this temporary drop. Those like Mamata and Kejriwal who are complaining needlessly have nothing better to do anyway.
