China on Thursday suggested the US defensesecretary brush up on his history after urging Beijing not to build a"Great Wall of self-isolation", saying the Great Wall was build tokeep out invaders not as a hindrance to contact.

在美国防长敦促中国不要建立“自我孤立的长城”后，北京周四建议美国防长重新复习一下自己的历史知识，称长城的建造是为了抵御外敌，而不是为了与外界隔绝。

US Defense Secretary Ash Carter made the remarks at a security dialogue inSingapore this month, when the United States and Asia nations put pressure onChina to rein in its actions in the disputed South China Sea.

美国防长卡特在本月的新加坡安全对话上做了上述表态，当时美国和亚洲国家向中国施压要求其克制在有争议海南上的举动。

Chinese defence ministry spokesman Wu Qian said Carter's comments had beennoted.

中国外交部发言人称注意到了卡特的言论。

"As for the Great Wall, those who have studied Chinese history all knowthat it was defensive," Wu told a regular monthly news briefing.

“学习过中国历史的人都知道，长城是防御性目的的，”这位发言人在新闻发布会上说。

"It was to keep out the cruel oppression of invaders, not friendly envoysor free trade."

“是为了防止外敌的残忍压迫，不是用来抵挡友好使者和自由贸易的。”

Wu also brushed off the isolation remark, saying China's friends spanned theworld and more and more countries supported its position on the South ChinaSea.

这位发言人还反驳了自我孤立的言论，称中国的朋友遍天下，有越来越多的国家支持中国在南海的立场。

Its called LONG WALL we made it know by csll it GREAT IN English. In the locallanguage it doesnt sound great at all. And what r they so proud for the b l o od y wall was still climbed over by the smaller army hahahahah
