SEOUL - South Korea's President Moon Jae-in toldJapanese lawmakers on Friday "cautious, restrained" language isneeded when discussing wartime forced labor to avoid "incitingantagonistic emotions" between the people of the two East Asian countries.

汉城讯-韩国总统文在寅周五告诫日本国会议员，在谈论二战强征劳工时需要“谨慎，克制”，以避免在两个东亚国家的人民之间“煽动敌对情绪”。

A row between Seoul and Tokyo flaredagain in late October when South Korea's Supreme Court ruled that Japan'sNippon Steel& Sumitomo Metal Corp must pay four South Koreans 100 millionwon ($87,700) in compensation for their forced labor during World War Two.

Japan denounced the ruling, which said a1965 treaty did not remove the workers' right to reparations, as"unthinkable".

The strain in relations between the two U.S.allies could affect efforts to rein in North Korea's nuclear and missileprograms, analysts say.

Moon, who met Japanese lawmakers in Seoul onFriday, said his government would take its time to seek a solution because theissue was triggered by a judicial ruling that must be respected.

"I think we need to use cautious,restrained expressions on this issue so as not to incite antagonistic emotionsof the peoples of both countries," Moon said at the meeting.

"Hurting the amicable sentiment between thetwo countries does not help the progress of the future relationship betweenSouth Korea and Japan," he added.

Japanese leaders have reacted angrily to theNippon Steel verdict and a later ruling against Mitsubishi Heavy IndustriesLtd, arguing that the issue was settled by the 1965 treaty.

At a press briefing in Tokyo, Chief CabinetSecretary Yoshihide Suga said the South Korean rulings defied internationallaw.

"Relations between our two countries rightnow are in a very difficult situation," he said. "We will continue tostrongly urge the South Korean government to respond in the appropriatemanner."

Moon addressed another contentious bilateralissue over Seoul's decision last month to disband a fund meant to settlecompensation for South Korean women forced to work in Japanese militarybrothels during World War Two.

Under a 2015 deal, Japan apologised to the"comfort women" - Japan's euphemism for women, many of them Korean, forcedto work in its wartime brothels - and provided a 1 billion yen ($9.4 million)fund to help them.

The practical realities of whatcan come out of a better relationship between Japan and Korea are surely farmore important to the people of both countries that yet another apology thatmay or may not be seen as sincere.

日韩两国保持现实良好关系对两国人民来说比一个真诚或者虚伪的道歉要重要得多。

Especially with both as U.Sallies. I would have thought both countries have enough to worry about withChina and Russia as close neighbours.
It really makes a lot of senseto finally move on.

I do not remember any person ofHiroshima and Nagasaki demanded compensation to U.S. I do not remember anyJapanese protested U.S. explain that It was necessary to end the war quick. Weare different and cannot understand their mentality.
