Wikileaks founder Julian Assange’s Twitter account has disappeared with no indication of why it has vanished. 

维基解密的创始人朱利安 · 阿桑奇的推特账户已经消失, 而且没有任何迹象表明它为什么会消失。

The only message which can be glimpsed on Assange’s official Twitter page on Monday is “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!”.

周一, 阿桑奇官方 Twitter 页面上唯一可以看到的信息是"对不起, 页面不存在!"

It is not clear whether the social media site decided to delete the account or the 46-year-old himself made the decision to erase it. 

目前还不清楚这个社交媒体网站是否决定删除这个账户, 还是46岁的他，自己决定删除这个账号。

An account which claimed it was an alternative to Assange's account said Twitter had deleted his official one prior to the bombshell story he is getting ready to unveil.

But there was no clear indication Assange was behind the alternative account and it has now been suspended from Twitter.

Wikileaks has not commented on the fact the Australian computer programmer’s Twitter account has mysteriously disappeared.

People have speculated as to why Assange’s account has vanished and questioned why he would potentially choose to silence himself.

While some of Assange’s supporters voiced anger at what they deemed to be Twitter’s censorship of free speech, others applauded the fact the account could no longer be viewed.

Gizmodo predicted Assange’s account was deleted between midnight and 1am GMT.

Assange seems to polarise people into either hating or loving him. I don’t know what his real motives are, but making information available and making it harder for governments to work in the dark seems like a good thing to me.
