hinese truck driver who tried to escape after knocking down a motorcyclist was caught by passing drivers who teamed up to chase him.

The hit-and-run suspect reportedly mowed down a man who was riding a scooter on March 4 at a crossroad in the county of Rudong east China's Jiangsu Province.

据报道，3月4日肇事逃逸嫌犯在中国东部江苏省如东县一十字路口撞倒了一骑摩托车的男子。

He left the scene without stopping.

他驱车完全没做停留就逃离了事故现场。





Footage released by Pear Video shows that one driver who witnessed the accident started chasing the truck.

Soon two other cars turned around and joined the first driver in the chase.

The truck driver was eventually caught near a residential complex after one of the three cars slammed the truck from the side forcing it to stop.

According to the local television station Jiangsu TV the motorcyclist was left lying in the middle of the road injured after being hit by the fast truck.

The driver was given a 2000 yuan (￡225) fine and a 15-day detention by the police.

Chinese law dictates that people injured by motorists have to be supported by them for the rest of their lives. There's reported cases that motorists have knocked down pedestrians and reversed over them to "Finish them off" because it's cheaper to pay the fine.

Not quite true. The driver guilty of the accident is liable to pay the victims medical bills for the rest of his/her life. And yes it is sometimes cheap to reverse over them to ensure dead so just pay the family off and avoid lengthy medical bills. So long as the family agrees to the payoff you're home free. Otherwise you'll be sentenced to death for taking the life of another if the family don't agree and forgive. Usually the family will agree as it will give them a lump sum payment.
