China is to relocatemore than 9,000 people before the unveiling of the world’s largest radiotelescope later this year – a move that Beijing hopes will boost the globalhunt for extraterrestrial life.

中国将于今年晚些时候迁移9千人以建立世界上最大的射电望远镜——北京希望此举能提振全球对外星生命的探索。

Work on the 1.2bn yuan (￡127m) Fast(Five-hundred-metre Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope) project began in thesouth-western province of Guizhou in 2011 and is expected to be completed bySeptember.

这个500米的孔径球面射电望远镜耗资12亿元，2011年于贵州投建，预计于今年9月份完工。



Before then 9,110 residents of Guizhou’sPingtang and Luodian counties will be “evacuated” from their homes, the Xinhuanews agency announced onTuesday. Each will receive 12,000 yuan (￡1,275) in compensation from thegovernment’s eco-migration bureau, Xinhua added.

Because in case you haven't noticed, Earthis limited in size. Also earth's eco system isn't endless as long as populationgrowth isn't endless. Population increased from 1 billion to 7 billion in alittle over 200 years. That is unsustainable. If you want to go kill a billionpeople or so every few decades then we might have a chance long term here.Space is only unreachable with current methods, methods that 100 years agowould of never even been considered possible.

因为地球资源是有限的。只要人口增长是不是无尽的，那么地球的生态系统也不是无尽的。在200年多一点的时间里，地球人口从10亿上涨到了70亿。这是不可持续的。如果每过几十年就杀死10亿人，那么我们才有可能在地球上进行长期的生存。只有在目前的手段下太空才是不可接触的，而目前的手段对于100年前的人们来说也是不可想象的。
