There isnot actually a law in the UKthat requires one to have a passport. We are not living in Russia, we canleave the country any time that we want to. Nor do we need a passport toreenter the country. The Passport Office admits that "any verifiable meansof identity is suffficent".  Okay,one would need some form of passport in order to enter another country, soperhaps there is a business opportunity here for a company interested inissuing a "verifiable means of identity" at a price that wouldundercut our beloved Government.

WOW! AndI used to grumble about the costs and efforts renewing my passport here in Germany. Ithink I'll have to start counting myself lucky, having it so relatively easy.

lasttime we renewed - last year - there were so many problems we had no option butto use an 'expedited' service of some sort. the cost was WELL in excess of whatis suggested just to get it in a normal amount of time.
