Carefully cradling her newborn cub in her mouth, panda Hao Hao seems to be settling into motherhood with ease.

小心的将新生宝宝含在嘴里，大熊猫浩浩看来已经轻松的扮演起了母亲这个角色。

Little does she know how hard her keepers fought for her to get to this point – and the odds for survival that are still stacked against her tiny boy.

她不知道的是饲养员们费了多大的力气才帮助她走到了这一步，她也不知道仍然不利于她宝贝的生存几率有多大。

Her baby was born in a Belgian zoo today, a rare event for an endangered species that numbers fewer than 2,000 worldwide. 

今天她的孩子在比利时一家动物园降生，这对于一个种群数量还不到2000的濒危物种来说实在是一件稀有的事件。

panda can only mate between March and May, while human can have sex anytime, sounds fair to me.

It's not usually the size of the baby being born that causes the pain and exhaustion for mothers(including this giant Panda), it's the hormones that are working at the moment that kinda mess up the system so mother and newborn can survive. Thumbs up to all mothers out there.

I knew they were that small but I didn't know that they looked exhausted after giving birth. Because its true when you look at the size you wonder how she even felt it. Actually quite a few have died in the past because the mother did not feel it and rolled over on them.

I've always wondered why pandas are kept in such barren conditions - minimum straw, hard concrete floor, metal cage, no privacy, metal tray to lie on, bright lights, - no wonder they find it difficult to breed.

it's not because of barren conditions, read wikipedia: "..they seemed to lose their interest in mating once they were captured."
