Barack Obama will not stay at New York’s WaldorfAstoria during the UN general assembly this month after the hotel wasbought by a Chinese insurance firm.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest saidObama and the USdelegation would stay at the nearby New York PalaceHotel. “There are a range of considerations that influence where the presidentwill stay when he’s not at the White House,” Earnest said.

“Those considerations include everythingfrom available space to cost and to security.”

Earnest would not say whether the Chineseacquisition of the Astoriahad raised concerns about possible espionage. Anbang Insurance Group bought thelandmark luxury hotel in late 2014 for $1.95bn.

Can't say I blame him. The Waldorf Astoriais grossly over-rated. It was probably great 100 years ago, but now isdesperately in need of refurbishment.

In the 80s the Japanese bought up a lot ofhotels, etc and people then thought the Japanese would own America. Thentheir economy went south and they haven't aroused concern since then.
