A man has died and eight people have beeninjured after a van ploughed into pedestrians near a north London mosque.

The van mounted the pavement and struck agroup of people just after midnight near Finsbury Park Mosque in Seven SistersRoad. A 48-year-old man has been arrested.

Eyewitness: 'It was chaos'

The van driver was arrested after beingdetained by members of the public at the scene following the collision at 00:20BST.

Police said there were no reports of anyonesuffering from knife injuries after speculation at the scene the driver wasarmed with a knife.

An eyewitness told how he jumped out theway of the van as it struck.

Another who lives in a flat on SevenSisters Road told the BBC she saw people "shouting and screaming".

Some witnesses at the scene - near FinsburyPark Station and Arsenal's Emirates stadium - said more than one attacker mayhave been involved.
