China has exercised “great restraint” in the disputed South China Sea by not taking back islands occupied by other countries even though it could have, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Tuesday ahead of two regional summits.

一名中国高级外交官周二在两个区域峰会之前说道由于没有夺回被其他国家占领的岛屿（尽管中国有这个能力），所以中国实际上保持了“极大的克制”。

China has overlapping claims with Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei in the South China Sea, through which $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year.

Can any reasonable person look at a map of the territory claimed by China in the South China Sea as 'theirs' and not be concerned at their current posturing?!!
..China is not a country to tangle with lightly, its ever expanding military might and creeping global economic influence'n acquisitions are without precedent.

China has no military ability to seize the control of what it claims. Why China is acting so aggressively? I'd say it's trying to behave like a superpower, or to build its international image, even in a rude manner. And let's leave alone Tibet or Xinjiang issues because it has nothing to do with South China Sea.

Restraint? Are we talking the same kind of restraint shown to the peace loving people of Tibet? if I was Tibetan and owned a picture of the Dalai Lama, or tried waving the Tibetan flag... Or merely sent an email out about concerns for my nation being swallowed by your population transferral in a final solution to cement your illegal rule... Would you show me restraint?

A clueless comment. The manner in which China governs Tibet is objectionable, but the fact of its rule is not "illegal". The majority of Tibet's representatives, including the Dalai Lama, acknowledge that Tibet is part of China, and do not wish to change that - they seek greater autonomy while remaining part of China.

Misleading assertion.
The entire Chinese South China Sea together with all islands inside 9-dashed line, submerged or not have been and will always be Chinese.
There is no international law which requires China to surrender Chinese ownership over Chinese South China Sea and China never signed away any Chinese sovereignty over Chinese South China Sea.
Recent dispute from Philippine does not render Chinese South China Sea to be the so-called "international waters", and there never was and will never be an issue with freedom of innocent passage over there.

这是具有误导性的说法
整个南海包括九虚线内的所有岛屿，不管是不是在海水下，都是属于中国的。
根本没有国际法律要求中国放弃对南海的所有权，中国也从来没有签字放弃中国对南海的主权。
最近来自菲律宾的异议并不能让中国的南海成为所谓的“公海”，而且在南海从来就不存在任何的自由航行问题，以前没有，以后也不会有。

Won't be an issue because USN will sail through regardless of your BS assertions about ownership since the start of the universe.... pity no one else supports it comrade.
There actually is a set of obligations which CCP ratified on China's behalf in July 1996. (Check the UN site Steady). Further those rules do not recognise creating facts at sea by buildjng artificial islands.
Now in sense of balance Steady, all sides should negotiate in good faith with binding arbitration. Cease militarisation of SCS and stop wanton destruction of pristine environments.

之所以不存在问题，是因为不管你中国怎么宣称，美国海军还是会航行经过。其他国家并不支持中国的主权声明。
实际上1996年中共代表中国批准通过了自己所需要遵守的义务。此外，这些规定并不承认通过建造人工岛屿来建立海上的事实。
为了达到平衡，所有各方都应该诚心诚意的进行协商。停止军事化南海，并停止对原始的海洋环境进行肆意破坏。
