A city in east China is keeping its lights on atnight using the power generated through burning truckloads of damagedbanknotes.

中国东部一城市通过燃烧破损纸币的方式来点亮自己。



This year alone over 1,800 tonnes of moneywith a value of almost 180 billion yuan (￡18 billion) has been incinerated togenerate electricity in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, according to The People's Daily online.

单单在今年，就有超过1800吨、价值1800亿元人民币纸币被焚烧来为江苏盐城市提供电力供应，人民日报网站报道。



The money burnt is the old 100 Yuan (￡10)red banknotes that are now being replaced nationwide with a new design.

这些被燃烧的都是旧版的100元纸币，现在正被中国新版的百元大钞替代。

most bank notes are not made of paper,their made from cotton, linen or other types of fibers. it has very little woodpulp fibers in it.
