The EU has put tariffs on American goods as part of a trade war with Donald Trump

From today the European Union has imposed tariffs on US goods, in retaliation to Donald Trump imposing tariffs on EU steel and aluminium importers. 

从今天开始欧盟开始对美国产品征收关税，报复川普对欧盟钢铁和铝制品征收关税。

The tariffs are almost all 25 per cent – meaning anyone who wants to import these products from the US to the EU will have to pay a 25 per cent tax.

关税几乎都是25%，意味着任何人想从美国进口某些产品到欧洲的话都得支付25%的税收。



That will probably make the American versions of these goods more expensive for consumers, though not necessarily straight away (if old stock is already held), and not necessarily by 25 per cent (companies could absorb some of the cost to remain competitive).

The EU retaliation is kind of toothless if not even helping the American economy.
Tariffs on fam products do not hurt so much American economy cause the farms are subsidized anyway. Fewer exports mean fewer subsidies. Tariffs on Harley Davidson actually help the brand. That brand has no value if anyone can afford their motorcycle. Same goes for the yachts. EU tariffs on these kinds of products are actually strengthening the brands.

The simple answer - boycott all American goods. Most of the cheap food exports are grown on farms with high use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and many are genetically modified. European grown real fruit, local if possible  would provide far healthier diet than the Monsanto poison contaminated stuff from USA

About time that US food was totally banned anyway, just read the contents on the back of a tin; ``Essence of, juice from, oil of, traces of′′etc, how can tinned meat have no meat in it?
Good that the EU is fighting back, 500 million in the EU, a big market to lose!

And the EU exports more to the US than the US exports to the EU ,Looking at this pointless pile of goods they have raised tariffs on to threaten Donald Trump

The papers are reporting whisky and harley davidsons, but the list includes clothes, footwear, electrical goods and furniture.

Nothing on that list that will affect my buying patterns, fortunately. I either don't use those things, or buy better alternatives that are already more decently priced. 
Be interesting to see what affect it has on the denim market; very few jeans are still made in the USA, and all the premium denim is now almost exclusively from Japan.
