NEW YORK—U.S. auto giant Ford announced Monday it will withdraw from Japan andIndonesia due to a weak profit outlook in the two Asian markets.

The No. 2U.S. automaker after General Motors plans to cease operations in Japan andIndonesia in the second half of 2016. It will close its Ford dealerships andstop importing Ford vehicles into the countries.

Seemsthat sales are also falling♪like a rock♪. I can'tremember the last time I saw a Ford in Japan, let alone a Ford dealership.

How aboutputting some effort into the market? Have you ever seen a Ford advertisement?Any activity at all to show your presence in Japan? No, nothing. Just becauseyou're famous in the US does not mean you automatically have a high profilehere in Japan or anywhere else. If you put NO effort into selling, then you getno sales. That is how it works. A few years ago, VW started advertising inJapan. And guess what! I started seeing VWs driving down the street.

都没有在市场上下功夫。你有见到过福特的广告吗？在日本根本就看不到福特广告。在美国很出名，并不意味着在日本或者其他国家就出名。如果你在销售上没有付出，那么你就没有销量。道理就这么简单。几年前，大众开始在日本做广告。你猜怎么着？我开始看到街上出现大众车了。

Theywould achieve more success with their European Ford models, more suited to theJapan market.
Or arethey still smarting from their relatively unsuccessful tie up with Mazda allthose years ago? They still have 2.1% of Mazda shares.

Neverseen commercials on TV for many years. It seems that Ford has not tried to sellas many as it can in Japan.

Thereisnt any money to be made in Japan and with all the regulations and tariffs,its not worth the effort, They are better to concentrate in SE Asia and China.hopefully their domestic demand will overtake Toyota, Nissan and others whohave dominated in the U.S. market due to easy access.

There areno tariffs on car imports to Japan. Don't even mention about non tariffbarriers as well since a left handle car is not popular in Japan the same way aright handle cars are not popular around the world beside Britain and Japan.
Basicallythey can't generate sales that is all.Their excuse is lame as well since withautomated cars on the horizon there will be a large demand in a greyingsociety.

A lot ofmisunderstandings on this forum. There's a couple of Fords in my immediateTokyo neighborhood: a Focus (with right hand drive) and an Explorer. The Focusmodel used to share its platform with Mazda and doesn't look anywhere out ofplace on Japanese roads.
I seeFiestas occasionally as well, which are popular in Europe. Ford has long beenone of the world's most globalized car brands. However, Japan is a declininglow-profit market, even for Japanese makers, who are more interested these daysin emerging markets.

The yaksnow buy German cars or Lexus. It is a long time since they bought Lincolns, aFord product. Small Fords are Mazdas anyway.
