There was no need for students at oneChinese university to choose between sweet or savoury at lunch time as theircanteen served up an unusual strawberry and celery combination.

The cafeteria at Hubei University, centralChina, decided that their customers were getting bored with ordinary foodchoices so decided to mix things up, according to People's Daily Online.

They brought out the bizarre dish featuringcelery, fresh strawberries, edamame beans and white rice - and it proved animmediate hit, selling out in under ten minutes of serving.

It follows another college, AnqingUniversity in east China, who recently served up a range of culinaryconcoctions - including chicken with oranges, peaches with pork and grapes withtomatoes.

Nothing unusual here. Fruit has been anaddition to salad for decades - try spinach, peach slices, goat cheese with awarm balsamic dressing. Pork and apples is classic, ham and pineapple, orangebeef, chicken and prunes/honey ... salmon is great marinated in balsamic,garlic, pinch/brown sugar.

I never did understand why British peoplewere so regimented and unwilling to mix foods up like this. To me, they lookdelicious and sound even better. I once added apples and orange segments to abeef casserole, and my neighbour refused to even taste it (it was deliciousactually). "You don't bl*dy mix fruit with meat, you re*ard", was hiscomment.

I often eat a mixed green salad with addedstrawberries and mandarin orange pieces added for meals (it's delicious btw) -so I don't see this as that weird.

Sounds good to me, I love the sweet andsavoury combination. I find I'm likely to eat less that way, just got to makesure the sweet part is healthy though.
