Thousands of old and disused motorcycles have been thrown away onto a mountain of the two-wheeled vehicles in south China.

Photographs reveal a huge tangled mess of hogs and off-road bikes, littering every empty area of ground next to the major bypass road under the Nantou Toll Bridge expressway in Shenzhen, Guangdong province.

The city of Shenzhen has been tightening laws to combat illegally operated or unregistered side cars on motorbikes.
深圳正在收紧对非法行驶或未经注册的跨斗摩托车的控制。
Starting from this month, the ban will apply on motorised tricycles - a very popular mode of transport in China - as well.

I've seen eight of them, so far, and two pandas. Rather like in an alleyway behind a Chinese restaurant in England......a rubbish bag containing 36 cat's heads was found in Manchester last year, the bodies nowhere to be found......

The usual ill-informed rubbish. There is not one legitimate 'motorcycle' in that pile - they're all mopeds. Note to the idiot who wrote this piece: A HOG is one of many nicknames for a Harley.

@ Gry: Most electricity in China is generated with coal.....more damaging than petrol or gasoline. Electric cars don't mean squat if the generated power isn't clean.

How much were the police paid/ rewarded for each bike they got off the streets? How much are licenses in China? What was the average cost for each bike when the people bought them? These are facts that help us to understand the article DM, usually it was taught in schools, if they attended class that day I guess. Oh well, right!

GuangZhou the main city of Guangdong and 30 miles north of Shenzhen banned motorbikes 10 years ago. Same pictures then, fields full of them. Shenzhen has a 10 million population so around 500,000 bikes, plenty more to be scrapped and eventually recycled. The major cities in China are banning motorbikes as they're dirty and noisy, however the rest of China is still polluted by them. Electric bikes and scooters are replacing them.. The 'in' thing here in ZiBo, Shangdong is the small electric two-seat car at around 6000 RMB and no licence required.
