A secret London vault, which can store more than $80bn (￡57bn) in gold bullion, is being sold by Barclays to China’s ICBC Standard bank for an undisclosed sum.

The facility is located inside the M25 and has the capacity to store 2,000 tonnes of gold. And while further details about the vault are scarce, it is said to be one of the largest in Europe and is presently used to store bars of gold, silver, platinum and palladium.

Its very naive of the Chinese Government to trust the Brits - I mean, would you entrust part of your gold to an ex-drug dealer? What would they do if the Brits decide to swipe it all (unpaid taxes or something).. - withhold the sweet and sour?

Ya, umm, no one brings an RPG to a vault heist. You bring the C4 and leave the RPGs in the getaway truck to deal with any pesky pursuits.

Who is the Chinese bank owned by? Isn't China still run by a Communist aka The People's Party? This seems like another way for the ultra wealthy to hide assets or divert funds since the offshore banks were exposed. I guess it will be quite handy just in case you have to make a quick exit from the country if your government held job is lost.

这个中国银行是谁的？中国是不是还被TG，或者叫人民党统治着，当离岸银行被曝光之后，这对于那些极富者来说似乎是另外一种来隐藏或者说转移他们资产的极佳方式。

Slightly irresponsible for the journalist to state where such a vault is "rumoured" to exist. There is no benefit for the general public in knowing such details, for criminals however that is an entirely different thing. If the vaults do exist there and are broken into over the next few years, you can imagine who the bank will partly blame.

The "bad people" will know where it is if they think that they have a chance of cracking it. It wouldn't take a big investment to follow a delivery of gold from an approved refiner and see where it went.
