Getting stuck in a traffic jam can be one of the most frustrating parts of travelling around a busy city.

Now engineers inChina, the world's most populated country, have come up with a way to overcome the problem of getting around in traffic.

Designs for a new elevated bus has been unveiled at a tech expo in China, which will apparently be able to carry 1,200 passengers over the top of cars and let traffic to pass underneath it.

新的高架巴士的设计在中国的一个科技展上展出，这种交通工具可以运送1200名乘客从汽车顶上穿过，其它车可以在它下面运行。

The scale model of the 'Transit Elevated Bus' was demonstrated this week at the 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo.

'With a carrying capacity of 1200 people at a time the TEB has the same functions as the subway while its cost of construction is less than one fifth that of the subway' said Bai Zhiming engineer in charge of the TEB project said in a YouTube video showing an interview with CCTV News.

“这种载客容量为1200人的空中巴士具有与地铁相同的功能，然而它的建设成本不到地铁的五分之一。”空中巴士项目负责工程师白志明在一个上传到YouTube的央视新闻采访视屏中如是说。

'Its construction can be finished in one year' he added.

The first tests of the bus are scheduled to start trail operation in Qinhuangdao City in north China's Hebei Province in the second half of this year.

今年下半年，在中国北方河北省将开始这种巴士的首次试运行。

This means the buses could be in place by the end of the year.

It's a novel idea with just one major flaw.......... us humans it we were organised and didn't change lanes then great but unfortunately we are not machines perhaps this would work when driverless cars rule.

They live in toy town world where all the cars are neat and in rows one behind the other and the elevated bus can pass them all oh how wonderful except life is not like that. In real life cars are zig zagged especially at junctions and cross roads with motorcycles and bicycles weaving in and out. The elevated bus will be stopped in traffic like all the rest. A good try though.

So I'm kind of wondering when one of these things gets stuck in traffic and you find yourself stuck under it for an hour because an accident up ahead has everything tied up would you be sitting in a thick pocket of carbon monoxide getting really sleepy or does this wonderbus have good ventilation underneath?
