David Cameron has warned China that it must abide by the outcome of international arbitration on its increasingly assertive territorial claims in the South China Sea – the cause of bitter disputes with the Philippines and other countries in the region.

Speaking as he arrived in Japan for the G7 summit Cameron adopted his toughest stance yet on China’s claims following criticism from the White House that he has been too accommodating towards Beijing.

What if the rulings are not in Phillipines favor? Isn't that a possibility? If that happens and China were to agree with the rulings? Surely we must prepare to that.

The western media never showed a detailed map of the area. Taiwan has a natural island (Taiping island) in the area. Based on that Taiwan can draw a 200 mile EEZ as good as if not better than the Philippines. Since Taiwan and China are recognized by UN and all major countries as one country China claims sovereignty over the same area.

I find the Idea of Cameron 'warning' the Chinese to heed the judgement of a court that has no power to enforce it's rulings hilarious he can't even bring consensus to his own party. I bet those horrid Chinese Politicians and Generals are quaking in their boots! -)

Really he sold opium? on a recent visit to China? Do you have proof of this? He is speaking for the entire G7 and all of the surrounding nations to China of course. China has to learn to abide by international law.

Which international law has China breached and refused to comply with? When the US and its stooges attacked Vietnam Cambodia Afghanistan Iraq Libya Syria etc etc did they have the approval of the UN?

Can the promise of hope and peace be dictated by the USA in the south China Seas when they have been the instigator of terrorism and guerilla warfare after WW2. USA has a complete meltdown in the middle east since 1990 in IraqEgypt and Libya. This demand for control of the south china seas by proxy with the Philippines and Vietnam is to capitalise on the billion pound of trade going through the south china seas. If the Americans can instil impartial control in the SCS instead of capitalising on the billion dollars revenue it will bring. Lets hope this is not the same USA that is egging for war in the SCS after a debacle in the persian gulf. Cheap oil means USA is keen to shift its interest in the more lucrative business in the SCS.

I suppose that the UK must also abide to the UN ruling that Falklands Islands be returned to Argentina.
And that the US must return Diego Garcia to Mauritius Hawaii to the Hawaiians And New Mexico and Texas to Mexico.

Why doesn't the mighty EU do something?
The only thing which would make the Chinese sit up and beg would be a total ban on all their exports.
