A Chinese pensioner has successfully givenbirth to a boy at the age of 61.

一中国老年人成功在61岁高龄生下一子。

The baby, weighing 2,930 grams (103ounces), was born at 39 weeks during a C-section in eastern China's ZhejiangProvince on June 27, reported People's Daily Online.

这个孩子重2930克，6月27号在浙江省通过剖腹产生下，总共39周，人民网报道。

The mother, surnamed Zhang, decided to tryfor another baby after her only child died of illness, leaving herheart-broken.

这名母亲在自己唯一的孩子死于疾病后悲恸不已，于是决定再生一个。

The news emerged two months after an Indianpensioner, Daljinder Kaur, gave birth to her first baby at the age of70 in the state of Haryana, northern India.

而两个月前一个印度妇女在70岁高龄生下自己的第一个孩子。



Zhang was devastated after her daughterpassed away aged 30, according to Chinese media.

据报道，在自己女儿30岁去世时，张遭受了沉重打击。

The pensioner longed for a new family andher 66-year-old husband supported her idea of having another baby.

她想再生一个，而她66岁的丈夫也支持她。

After seeking doctor's advice fromdifferent hospitals, the 61-year-old was successfully conceived last Novemberthrough IVF treatment.

在询问了不同医院的医生建议后，61岁的她去年11月成功试管受精。

When Zhang showed up for her antenatalappointment for the first time, the doctors and nurses thought she wasaccompanying her daughter or daughter-in-law.

在张首次产前预约时，医生和护士以为她陪女儿或者儿媳来的。



They were later stunned to discover Zhangwas the mother.

后来惊讶的发现是张本人怀孕了。

Due to Zhang's age, pregnancy was achallenge.

The mother was hospitalised twice due tobleeding, the first time at 28 weeks and the second time at 33 weeks.

She also experienced complications in theheart, lungs and kidneys as the organs were weakening at her age.

Currently, there are about 660,000 suchfamilies in China, with 41 per cent of them living in rural areas, according tothe National Bureau of Statistics.

These families receive a monthly subsidiaryof up to 340 Yuan (￡39) from the government.

China abolished the mandatory one-childpolice on January 1, 2016.
