Scientists in China are set to launch the world’s first ‘quantum satellite’ which could one day make for an ultra-secure global communications network.

The 1300 pound craft contains a crystal that produces pairs of entangled photons which will be fired to ground stations in China and Austria to form a ‘secret key.’

Someone please help me with the ending part of this story! Is it me not understanding it or is it as per usual missing the detail?! I understand the entanglement part the use for fast and secure communications and instantaneous change of the photon's spin over great distances etc. Fine. There's suddenly a leap to rendering pictures from the surface of Jupiter. Where will the hardware or means to do this actually be? The article seems to go from points 1 to 3. What happened to the transition; point 2? Thanks

I've come back to this article with a fresh head! Is it trying to say one day China intends to have a satellite orbiting Jupiter (for instance) capable of taking high-res images of the surface 'somehow' using entangled photons between Earth and the satellite to enable an instantaneous and secure transmission of the data? But then that doesn't take account of the article referring to a 'megascope the size of Earth' which would suggest looking deep into the universe and thus farther back in time? I'm still confused!

I have been mentioning this for years as an excellent focus for research dollars. The theory has been around as the article mentions for decades. My thought was to have one particle remain on earth and the other in a space craft traveling at near the speed of light and we would be able to communicate not just over space butTIME!

It sounds an easy way to disrupt an opponents communicationsyou listen in the entanglement is broken and they know you're listening.A) do they proceed not knowing whether you.ve broken their code or not.Or B) halt the communication and thus stop the information being transmitted.The uncertainty principle is hard to get around even for quantum entanglement.
