TOKYO —The Japanese government is planning to allow the distribution of liquid baby formula in the country hoping the measure will encourage more men to join in child rearing as it takes less time compared with conventional baby formula which needs to be dissolved in hot water government officials said Sunday.

As a result although the production of liquid baby formula itself is not prohibited in the country liquid baby formula has not been distributed in Japan including foreign products.

Gotta love the logic (or lack of) blaming 40 seconds in the microwave oven stopping Japanese men helping with child rearing. Somehow I think making baby formula is far from the reason they don't do it.

There already is a liquid baby formula - it's called breastmilk. Call me skeptical but I suspect this panel who made this study about "the merits of formula" was probably sponsored by Meiji...
By all means encourage men to join in childrearing but let's put the priority of the child first. Babies need breastmilk if at all possible. There are lots of other ways men can help.

Babies need breastmilk but it's not always just a choice. Some mothers don't produce much milk in the first few months some babies can't feed properly and need to be supplemented with formula for nutrition. I think the idea for emergency rations is great.
