王健林：中国首富打算接管好莱坞吗？ [英国媒体]

China’s richest man Wang Jianlin didn’t mince words in a major address to Hollywood on Monday. “Hollywood which is famous for its storytelling apparently is not as good as it used to be in telling stories” he said citing the industry’sobsession with sequels and remakes.

在上周一的演讲中，王健林并没有兜圈子，而是指道“靠讲故事出名的好莱坞已没有了当年的风范”。他指的是好莱坞现在对续集和重拍的着迷。



“Those sequels might have worked before but Chinese audiences are more sophisticated now. If you want to participate in the growing Chinese market you must improve film quality.”

To those familiar with Wang the chairman of the Dalian Wanda Group a  real estate company attempting to transform itself into a global entertainment brand the forceful tone didn’t come as a surprise.

The Americans have been using Hollywood to extend cultural soft power overseas for almost a century. The Chinese are piggybacking on a very efficient machine.
And since when has Hollywood depiction of world peoples been fair? Russians were baddies during cold war and still are baddie fodder Brits are always superior intelligent but scheming French are arrogant South Americans are baddie henchmen and the clean cut American is always the hero even it involves rewriting history and Chinese well they were always baddies up to now but hilarious to see that they are now sometime good guys or the morally ambiguous scientist guy being brilliant but his state of the art technology being appropriated by the baddies for evil deeds.
They call it box office clout. Love it!

美国已经利用好莱坞来向海外推广自己的文化软实力差不多有一个世纪之久了。现在的中国人只不过是像美国人一样利用这高效的法子罢了。
好莱坞对世界上不同国家的人的塑造啥时候公平过？自打冷战以来，俄罗斯人总是被塑造成坏人，英国人总是聪明而狡诈，法国人总是傲慢无礼的，南美人总是黑帮分子。
而他们干干净净彬彬有礼的美国人总是被描写成大英雄，即使篡改电影内容所涉及到的相关历史……从现在开始，一直都被好莱坞黑得体无完肤的中国也有机会做好人了，作为好人或者作为道德模棱两可的科学家其最新技术被坏人利用，其中的好人（或者科学家）角色也可以由中国人来扮演了，想想还真是有点意思呢！

I don't think China have much to say. Its more about controlling the ideas others come up with. I wish they did come up with their own ideas and for films especially then we could know more about what occupies the minds of this supposed superpower. I have a feeling its nothing special and nothing to rival American/western creativity.

What could be worse than the cornball stuff Hollywood produces? As to which nationalities play which rôles there's at least one American ally whose citizens always wear white hats when appearing in Hollywood movies

China is not totalitarian today it is authoritarian like Iran and Saudi Arabia. North Korea is totalitarian Mao was totalitarian the old USSR was totalitarian.
I suggest a beginners primer in comparative politics flick through to examples.

The day a Chinese multi-billionaire takes over Hollywood will be the time hell freezes over. At over 74 and a third generation inland s. Californian I don't want to be around if it ever happens. I'm not a pop or a grandpa. Thank God.
