Coca-Cola workers in three Chinese cities have gone on strike after the US soft drinks company announced it was selling its bottling interests in the country.

可口可乐公司将在中国的瓶装业务出售后引发中国三个城市的可口可乐员工罢工。

Strikes and other labour protests have surged in recent years in China, where growth is slowing and parts of the economy are moribund.

最近几年中国的罢工和其他劳动抗议愈加频繁。中国经济增长正在放缓而部分经济停滞不前。

The company has announced it is selling all its bottling assets in mainland Chinato Hong Kong conglomerate Swire Pacific and Cofco Corporation, one of China’s state-owned food giants.

该公司宣布将位于中国大陆的瓶装业务出售给香港的太古公司和国有食品巨头中粮集团。

The Swire transaction was worth 5.87bn yuan (US$850m), the Hong Kong company said. Cofco did not disclose the size of its deal.

这家香港公司称太古这次支付了58.7亿元。而中粮集团没有披露交易规模。

Workers at three Coca-Cola plants called co-ordinated strikes on Monday, with pictures posted online appearing to show workers outside a factory in Chongqing with a banner that read: “We worked hard for over a decade but were sold in less than a second. Compensate! Compensate! Compensate!”

周一三家可口可乐工厂的员工举行联合罢工，网上有照片显示重庆工厂外的工人拿着抗议横幅：“我们辛苦工作十多年，但是一夜之间就被卖掉了。赔偿！赔偿！赔偿！”

This in a way highlights the difficulty of foriegn companies doing business in China. There are one set of rules for all, but often they are applied rigidly to foriegn firms, but not to local firms.
Hence many foriegn manufacturers look to sell to a local firms if profits are low as increasingly in manufacturing they are, or if they want to cash out. This avoids very punitive costs to close a factory, whilst the local firm as the article states can often get around the laws.
As manufacturing in many sectors looks for more cost effective locations for production, this trend is likely to accerlerate.

这正说明了外企在中国做生意的艰难。是有一整套的规定，但是要求外国企业严格执行，却对当地企业很是宽松。
所以当利润很低或者想要兑现时，很多外企就会出售给当地企业。这样就可以避免关闭工厂而引发的巨大成本，而当地企业正如文章中所表明的经常可以逃避法律的限制。
而由于很多行业的制造企业在寻找性价比更高的生产基地，这样的趋势有可能持续加剧。

Are you serious? They leave their villages behind to work in the big cities and this means leaving children,elderly parents,wives,husbands behind and live in workers' buildings in their hundreds.Imagine 4 cold,uninspiring walls and a sea of bunk beds.

I would love to know the real story behind this. Having worked in China for a couple years I guarantee Coke was basically told to sell to the party or face a never ending litany of government compliance BS as you watch knock offs cannibalize your market share.

I know right? The strikes serve no state purpose. That and the police action imply this is just some workers disgruntled about losing their plum jobs with foreign-owned companies. The Chinese businessmen who bought the bottling interests are of course very happy with the outcome.
