NEW DELHI —A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a Japanese tourist the previous day in the famed beach resort of Kovalam in India’s southern state of Kerala, police said Sunday.

新德里——一名涉嫌在此前一天在南部喀拉拉邦着名的科瓦兰海滩度假村强奸日本游客的25岁男子已经被逮捕，警方周日称。

According to the police, the woman was hospitalized following the attack Friday in her room in a small hotel in the town famous for its crescent beaches.

警方称，周五这名女性在这个以新月形海滩而闻名的小镇的一个小酒店的房间里遭袭击后被送往了医院。

“The woman called the police and was found bleeding when we reached her at the crime scene,” an investigating officer said.

“这名妇女呼叫了警察，我们到达犯罪现场后发现她在流血，”一名调查人员称。

The accused, identified as Tejha Pawar, was arrested late Saturday. He is a son of the owner of a handicrafts shop at Kovalam beach, the officer said.

I'm sure she had good reasons for going, and wasn't expecting to become a victim. But as always, the article is lacking information. Was this somebody she knew, was she walking alone down a dark alley, did she go to a bar and wake up afterward?

No one expects to be a victim, and the longer you live here and experience the "heiwa boke" syndrome that permeates much of society you will begin to understand that too many Japanese, when they travel abroad, still think that they are here in Japan, meaning that crap doesn't happen to them, always someone else.
Seen and heard of it happening too much to just casually brush it away.

没人想成为受害者，你住在日本足够长时间的话，你会发现弥漫于日本人中间那种“大家都很和平”综合征，所以当日本人去国外旅游时，他们还以为那是日本，以为坏事不会发生在他们身上，只会发生在别人身上。

Unfortunately this isn't an infrequent occurrence in India these days and am not talking about J tourists only but foreign travellers in general.
No doubt India has a lot to offer but solo female travellers in particular should use extreme caution. Local police should also, imo, do more to protect tourists especially in tourists spots like Kovalam.
Bring her back home asap.

Crime committed against the woman is deplorable .Accused involved has been arrested and will be brought to justice in the shortest possible time as law against crime against women is very stringent in India as it was visible in a JAIPUR incident , the case was decided by the court most expeditiously within three months and the accused involved were given exemplary punishment.People in India have high regard for Japan and its citizens.

The only way to effect change is to go after the money. By placing a travel ban to india until something is done about this avoidable debacle is the only answer.
