The images taken on December 21 show armed soldiers from the frontier inspection station taking part in 30-day-long extreme cold weather training in Heihe, located on the border with Russia.

从这组12月21号拍摄的照片中可以看出边防检查站的武装士兵在中俄边境的黑河进行了为期30天的极寒条件训练。



On December 21, the average temperature in Heihe was -22 degrees with a low of -27.

12月21号，黑河的平均温度达到了零下22度，而最低温度为零下27度。



The soldiers make up just one division of the People's Liberation army, known to be the largest army in the world with some 2.3 million active personnel.

The training our lads go through is soft compared to what these and some other countries go through, China, Japan, Korea etc. We are all about behavioural discipline and political correctness. Theirs is about mind, body and physical discipline.

I know some Brits who have been on joint exercises with Swedes and Yanks. The Swedes were superb and they could not get the Yanks to finish as it was .... too cold. Apparently they are all fat cry-babies.

I used to work in a coldstore that was rated at -25C degrees. It was cold, but not as cold as you would imagine. We could not go in unaccompanied, and we were not allowed in the environment for more than one hour at a time. Special attention was made about touching anything metallic, for fear of burns, but it was not so bad. Walking back out on to the bay, that was a balmy 5C degrees, was like walking into the middle of a heat wave!

我以前在冷库里面工作，零下25度。太冷了，但是没有你想象的那么冷。必须结伴才能入内，规定每次进去的时间不能超过一小时。注意事项是不能碰任何金属的东西，因为怕烧伤，但是没有那么糟糕。走出来以后，室外的温度是5度，感觉就像走进了热浪里面一样。
