A Chinese woman was so devastated by the death of her onlychild she decided to have another baby at the age of 64.

The mother, who remains unidentified, gave birth to a healthy son weighing3.7kg (8.2 pounds) yesterday through a C-section in Jilin Province, north-eastChina, reported Huanqiu, an affiliation to People's Daily Online.

据人民日报社的环球时报报道，这位来自中国东北吉林省身份待确认的中国母亲，在昨天通过剖腹产分娩一个3.7kg重的男孩。

The pensioner conceived through IVF, but doctors could not reveal whether ornot she had used her own embryo in the process due to privacy reasons.

The woman gave birth in the morning of December 28. She is reported to be theoldest mother in China.

The pensioner, who went through the menopause about 10 years ago, had endured arisky pregnancy.

Her obstetrician, Teng Hong, said the woman had been under immense pressureboth physically and mentally, according to local media Chinajilin.com.

At 13 weeks pregnant, she was diagnosed with complete placenta previa, a'risky' condition for pregnant women, according to doctor Teng.

In addition, the woman suffered bleeding at 30 weeks pregnant.

'Both the mother and son are safe. It is very lucky,' said Teng to a reporterfrom Chinajilin.com.
