India will overtake the United States as the world's second-largest economy by 2050 according to a newly published report.

Experts at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) claimed emerging economies such as India China Brazil and Russia will boom at the expense of the advanced G7 nations such as the United States Britain France and Germany.

The report 'The long view: how will the global economic order change by 2050?' compares 32 countries by ranking their GDP and Purchasing Power Parity which assesses the standard of living in each country and what people can buy on an average wage.

According to PwC: 'China has already overtaken the US to be largest economy based on GDP in PPP terms and could be the largest valued at market exchange rates before 2030.

It's the GDP PPP. Any student in economic (like me) knows that it's a flawed indicator (and it does not even represent power or anything else). So many economists criticised this figure. The basket of products used to make those figures create such a bias that you can't compare the GDP PPP between India and the west. For instance you can't compare the price of an apricot in India and in the west. You can die because of an apricot in India not in the west... For the moment even Mexico is above India in terms of GDP.

Sorry but all the rules have changed now DT is in office. Globalisation a means to make the rich richer at the expense of everyone else is not in DT's toolbox. He will impose all sorts of barriers that make it cheaper to make things at home (and generate thousands of new jobs) rather than transfer manufacturing to wherever labour is cheapest including India. Once other nations see how successful this policy is dramatic changes to the world economy will ensue. Russia with almost unlimited resources and a tiny population will do particularly well out of this.

Stupid article. Measuring economy by the country's GDP is just one of many variables. China & Indiaeven with highest GDPwill always lag way behind in terms of per capita income(being the most populous)currency adjusted against inflation and quality of life.
