China announced plans on Tuesday to launch a space probe to bring back samples from the moon before the end of the year in what state media cast as competition to U.S. President Donald Trump's ambitions to revitalise U.S. space exploration.

The Chang'e-5 lunar probe is undergoing a final round of tests and is expected to be on standby for launch from August the official People's Daily said citing the China National Space Administration.

The launch will involve new challenges for China in sample collection taking off from the moon and high-speed reentry to the Earth's atmosphere making it 'one of China's most complicated and difficult space missions' Hu Hao an official from China's Lunar Exploration Programme told the paper.

In 2021-2023, the SLS rocket will again take the Orion capsule to the moon and back, but this time with a crew of astronauts on board.

Well Woolva, yes we (USA) did. If you do not believe that then just ask the Russians. Even they admit we beat them using their highest available intelligence gathering and reconnaissance tools available at the time while we were doing it. I suspect that if there was any real evidence (outside of YouTube videos) they would have wanted that to come out.

Hey China, we did that decades ago. You certainly aren't beating us at getting to the moon to take samples. Nice try though. In case you haven't noticed, while China is still trying to figure out how to get to the moon, USA has been wandering all over Mars for quite a while now collecting samples. China will always be in our shadow, now matter how hard it tries.

@OB25 - I'm saying learn about a topic instead of assuming you know all about it after watching conspiracy videos. To get people to the moon required building the largest and the most powerful rockets in history. The Saturn V was such a rocket, where no rocket launched into space since comes anywhere near the size and power of the Saturn V. Did the Saturn V, the world's largest and most powerful rocket, explode on the launch pad? No, EVERY launch was a success and public, i.e. in full view of the world. So what's the issue? If you have the world's largest and most powerful rocket, then you can get people to the moon (or perhaps you believe the Saturn V rocket was a hologram?). Google Search: NASA Boeing SLS 2018, and read about NASA/Boeing's rocket due to launch next year, which will match (and eventually surpass) the Saturn V for size and power and will return astronauts to the moon in 2021-2023.

What is the purpose of the Daily mail personalizing anything the U.S. government does as if it is just one man's agenda. Trump was correct in banning the Daily Mail from the White House. Fake newspaper promoting fake news. The U.S. has already been to the moon multiple times.
