China's air pollution and smog could be caused by melting ice caps in the Arctic a new study claims. 

一项新的研究称，中国的空气污染和雾霾可能是由北极冰盖融化引起的。

The study published by Science Advances says that melting Arctic sea ice and increasing Eurasian snow has helped create conditions that trap pollution over the country's populated areas reports the People's Daily Online. 

据人民日报网络版报道，发表于《科学进步》的这篇研究报告说，正在消融的北冰洋冰川和增多的欧亚大陆积雪，创造了一定的气候条件导致该国人口稠密地带的污染无法散去。

Every winter parts of China chokes on poor air conditions keeping residents indoors unable to get to work or school.

The study was conducted by a Chinese researcher in the US.

It claims that the melting sea ice caused by climate change has shifted China's winter monsoon.

This has helped to create atmospheric conditions that have trapped pollution over China's major industrial hubs and populated areas like Beijing.

The findings were based on the analysis of one of China's worst air pollution events ever recorded in China in 2013. During that period smog lingered over eastern China for a month.

Yuhang Wang a professor at Georgia's Institute of Technology told reporters: 'Emissions in China have been decreasing over the last four years but the severe winter haze is not getting better.

Here's an idea. Try controlling pollution that is emitted from the cars factories and power plants. Los Angeles in the 1960's during inversion layer events was similar to Chinese cities today but after 50 years of pollution regulations the air quality in LA even when there's an inversion layer occurring is not too bad. Of course imposing United States pollution regulations on China would slow their economic growth by leveling the world-wide manufacturing field a bit. So the choice is clear: do they want to be rich or do they want make a bit less but be able to breath.

I was traveling in China in December of 1991. I was in all the big cities and small villages for a month and I never saw pollution like this. I'm glad I went when I did. This looks awful.

Wow so China NOT HAVING ANY ANTI-POLLUTION devices on their cars factories furnaces power plants and no regulations to control the dumping of chemicals debris and massive factories having no pollution controls and multiplying this by the millions and millions of people....gives you the conclusion it's the artic ice caps...HINT; fake news...they might be melting the ice caps with their horrendous pollution. People can't even breathe it's so bad. I know 2 families who went there for work. Both had to leave because of horrendous breathing problems and severe allergies. Once they got back to the states they were fine.

Any excuse!!! China looked like these photos - BEFORE they had cars - I was actually there in the early 90s [before they changed from bikes to cars in 1994] ... and it was just like this - try taking photos of a street scene never mind landscape and you can't see far enough to take a photo!!! SINCE then they have added traffic pollution to the factory pollution = NOT down to the arctic!!! How many millions of cars have been suddenly added to the pollution??? They should be driving at 20mph with fog lights on - but they aren't!! Remember the Beijing Olympics 2008 - when they closed factories and stopped traffic for days??? They KNOW the reason. No amount of buck-passing will alter it.
