TOKYO —The ruling Liberal Democratic Party decided Sunday to extend its term limit on party leaders potentially allowing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to remain in his role until September 2021.

东京：执政党自由民主党在本周六决定延长其总裁任期限制，这使安倍晋三有望担任总裁至2021年9月。

Abe’s tenure as president of the LDP was set to run out in September next year before the rule change which would have meant stepping down as prime minister even if the LDP was still in power.

The party holding its annual convention at a Tokyo hotel approved extending the limit to three consecutive three-year terms from the previous two consecutive three-year terms.

This means Abe can stand for re-election in the next party leadership vote in the fall of next year.

As long as the country keeps the Imperial seat it will not change. Since you used the term dictator vs. new imperial leader hmmm.. but must agree that his quest for changing the Constitution as he sees fit is much more than just changing the Constitution but stripping the Japanese citizens from any rights they have but do not use because it is not taught to them that only few know what rights they have today. Those in Japan under age 45 have what few successes they have as they see fit because of the older generation but once that is gone so to will any of those gains and only the socialite and ruling parties will benefit as easily scene today..just take a look at everyday TV talent or politico's same people year after year...

只要这个国家还保留天皇制，它就不会改变。因为你使用的是独裁者这个词，而不是新帝国领袖。但是必须承认，安倍随心所欲修改宪法的企图不仅是为了修改宪法，更是为了剥夺日本民众本来享有但从未使用的一切权利，因为他们没有受过相应的教育，只有很少的人知道他们现在到底有哪些权利。由于老一辈人，45岁以下的日本人很少如愿取得成功，不过一旦这些少量的成就逝去，所有这些收获也将逝去，只有上流人士和执政党派才能获益。只要看看每天的电视秀或政客就知道了，年复一年都是同样的人。

Well it's his own party and it's only internal rules that are changing. I see nothing wrong in particular with letting leaders serve longer terms although I make an exception in this case. Even one day with Abe in charge is twenty four hours too long. It says a lot about the LDP that this vapid morally bankrupt non-entity is the best they can manage for leadership.

Abe just wants to be PM during the Olympics. Japan really needs reapportionment. We haven't had that since the end of WWII. Unfortunately the US did not write that into our constitution. Now after the majority of the population has moved to the cities it is still the country yokels that control politics. They are vastly over represented which the Supreme Court has obxted to. And do not say well we have the proportional representation. That is not even a band aid.

I just get so sick of hearing how the LDP keep changing the rules and laws to suit themselves without any opposition. First it was making it possible to change the constitution without a public referendum. Then there was their secrecy bill and now this. They are criminals but they write the laws to suit themselves.

If anything what Japan needs is a new democracy no longer run by the brown paper bagging oyajis or the LDP that has done nothing but pad its pocket while polluting the country.
I hope more women rise up and take charge like Koike. It's clear the men are useless
