Concernabout climate change among people in China –the world’s biggest carbon polluter – has plummeted in the past five years,according to new research. The Chinese were the least concerned among 40nations surveyed.

中国人对气候变化的担忧——中国乃世界最大碳排放污染者——过去五年来直线下降，这是新研究所得出的结论。在40个受调查的国家中，中国人是最不担忧的。

Only 18%of Chinese citizens are seriously concerned about the issue, a drop of 23points since 2010, the US Pew Research Center report published on Thursday shows.

Neverthelessmore than two-thirds of Chinese people support a global deal on reducinggreenhouse gas emissions, the research states.

Despitethe apparent absence of anxiety in China, 71% of people interviewed there gavetheir support to their government curbing greenhouse gas emissions as part ofan international agreement due to be renegotiated at a crunch UN conference inParis in December where leaders from more than 190 countries will meet.
Surelypublic support for government policy to address climate change is far moreimportant than people lying awake at night worrying about it. It is a vastlybetter situation than 40% of the climate believing that climate doomsday isimmanent and the other 60% implacably opposed to any serious government policyon climate. Polarization is a really dangerous political path.

2) Theyhave other things to worry about (Like where they and their kids are going toget a job and how they are going to afford to pay for housing/a car/food).

The morepeople get sucked into increasing their wealth, even if slightly, the more theyget detached from the real world.
I'm notsure this is an accurate conclusion. There are a number of other nations (bothwealthy and what I would term 'aspirational') whose populations seem quiteconcerned about global warming.
Frankly,my dear, the Chinese don't give a damn.

The orderof Chinese citizen's priorities ain't surprising. The negative effects ofpollution are real, and here and now. The negative effects of global warmingare speculative, and there and then.

We needan import tax on polluting countries. All we are doing currently is exportingproduction to countries that cause more pollution per unit of product becauseof lax regulations & enforcement.
So we areexporting our pollution, then magnifying it because we are subsiding thepolluters by lax regulations that reduce their costs.
Theresult is that they are more competitive, so we transfer more production and soit goes on.

我们需要对污染国家征收进口税。由于我们把工业生产都外包到其他国家，再加上外国在监管和执行上较宽松，导致每个产品所产生的污染量更高。
所以我们等于是在出口污染，然后再将污染放大，因为外国为了减少成本而监管较松，所以相当于我们是在支持污染者。

What doyou mean by "polluting"? Which "pollutant' are you referring to?Would it be the same "pollutant" which is an essential ingredient forplant photosynthesis.

I wouldhazard a guess they mean polluting as in contaminating with harmful substances.By pollutant they probably refer to CO2 for which there is quite a substantialbody of evidence that it is harmful in the quantities being emitted. And yes itis an ingredient for photosynthesis, however Chromium is a vital trace elementneeded in the human body however I doubt you'd want to drink a glass of watercontaminated with Chromium(VI). Anything can become a pollutant in enoughquantities.
