Diego Costa is on the verge of re-joining Atletico Madrid from Chelsea - but he won't be able to play a match until January.

Spanish newspaper AS report that Atletico coach Diego Simeone is very keen on signing the striker before the start of the new season.

But because Atletico can't register any new players until January 2 because of the transfer ban, Costa will simply be training with them in the meantime.

According to the reports in Spain, Atletico believe Costa will come into their team in January in peak condition and understandably very hungry to play again.

Just don't let him leave underpaid. We owe no favours to Atletico. Especially after they disregarded the Curtois clause for the Champions League semi-finals and constantly saying how they want Costa back, unsettling him from the moment he arrived. We must take more than what we paid for him. If he stays take a monthly wage for every tantrum, see how he calms down, and then we see if someone wants him in January.

Will be interesting to see how they replace Costa. He offers so much to the game, not just goals. Lukaku is a proven goal scorer in the prem although often he doesn't score in big matches against big teams. He could do that with Chelsea. He hasn't proven himself in CL yet also. Plus people say he is lazy and this that and the other. Is it worth paying the alleged 100m for him ? Should be around 40m. The market is crazy. They have Batshuayi also they could put trust in him but it could be risky. I think it's best if he is back up striker for now. So let's see if they sign Lukaku or someone else.

Not a fan of Lukaku, but I just checked his goal scoring stats, the only top premier league team he has never scored against is Chelsea, so not really sure why people keep saying he doesn't score against the big team's.
