An elderly couple from Zhenzhou, the capital of east China's Henan province, have found a solution to making use of a disused underground space.
The duo - known only as Ma Fulai and his wife – have been living in what appears to be a well and they have transformed the old pit into their special home, reports The People's Daily Online.

They reportedly first moved into the 16-foot-deep well over 10 years ago, which is located minutes away from the university where they both work.
Report suggested the pit was used by the school as a generator room before the couple moved in.

And someone would buy it and turn it into an "iceberg well" with an enormous basement.

"Report suggested the pit was used by the school as a generator room before the couple moved in." So actually not a well at all, it has electricity, it's more like an outdoor bunker / basement.

I have just read that over six million people in China still live in caves. Apparently they are cool in summer and warm in winter.

Note to DM writers: a well is a shaft dug in the earth for the purpose of extracting water. This is an underground room, not a well, although I grant you that "well" looks more interesting in the headline.
