A Pennsylvania restaurant was dealt 18 violations and ruled out of compliance for having deer heads and brains on the premises among other unidentifiable animal body parts.

New China House, which is located in Lititz, received the series of violations from the Pennsylvania Game Commission in December, according to the state's department of agriculture website.

Despite the violations and ongoing investigation, the restaurant remained open for patrons Thursday.

According to PennLive, the eatery's owner, Chun, said that the deer parts were for soup that he was going to make for him and his wife and not customers.

'We don't sell deer meat,' Chun told the newspaper.

Inspectors found 'skinned and whole tails, legs, muscle meat, spines, necks and other unidentifiable parts both raw and cooked' in the restaurant during a December 16, 2015 inspection after being tipped off.

Even more repulsive- I drove by the night after this news came out and it was still open, with cars there.

This happens a lot.... And the resturant replies are always the same. "we are going to eat it" you know darn well that a resturant that knowingly breaks health codes are not trustworthy enough to keep "their lunch " out of our food.

This is my #1 reason for not eating Chinese food. If you watch that documentary show with the DNR in Maine they are constantly busting these restaurants for poaching wild animals and re selling or serving the animals. It happens everywhere! No thanks. I want to know what type of food I'm eating and also that it's been properly processed.

The only thing I everorder from a Chinese restaurant is shrimp dishes. I don't trust some of those unknown little chopped or sliced slivers of meat in some of the other dishes, but I know for sure what a shrimp looks like.

A lot of cultures eat different animal parts that we don't find super appetizing. He could've been using his restaurant kitchen to cook food for his own family, I've seen plenty of chefs do that, I don't see anything wrong with this unless he was serving that to patrons without their knowledge.

That is not permitted in commercial kitchens unless the food is properly sourced, this was obviously not. The safety protocols are in place for very good reasons. When they aren't followed then people die and/or get really sick. The ones that die are usually children or older people. So next time people think something like this is ok, look around at your kids and grandma and decide which one you want to ve very ill and which one you want to watch die.

I like venison too. Its much tastier than the bland beef produced by agri corporations and also much healthier because it contains much less fat. I also like rabbit, bison, turtle and other game meats. Its not far fetched to believe that this man was cooking and storing game for his family - much ado about nothing.

I do wonder sometimes why they even bother to inspect these places. It was a real eye opener for me after I stared reading the food inspecters reports. It did change the places I will eat at. Believe me the "back" of the business many times does not reflect the "front" of a business. Most of the times it seems there are no real consequences for dangerous and disgusting food handling behavior. They just keep getting cited for behavior that can and does have some devastating consequences on the health of the public yet time after time they are found with critical citations and nothing is done

The point is it's not usda approved. You have no idea how safe it's been prepared or how old it is. That's not right. If they want to serve venison then at least tell the customers.

Exactly. I get that it's violating health code, but it's an animal that many Americans and Canadians consume anyway. It's not like it's a cat or a dog. People are squeamish about this, but don't consider the other places that are shut down for rodents and insects.

Venison (deer meat) is really popular in Europe and they are serves in expensive European restaurants when it is in season in fall. It is also common to see venison on sale in supermarkets in Europe. I am sure five star restaurants in Europe serve venison. I feel sorry for the deers but I don't understand why this article is making a huge fuss over it.

I don't have a problem with them serving venison as long as the menu reflects that. What I have a problem with is How was the meat acquired? Was the meat stored according to regulations? Is the kitchen clean? In Alaska, when an animal is hit by a car, State Troopers will call a food bank to come and take the animal so the meat can be distributed to the needy.
