China’s darkmatter probe begins operation

China’s DarkMatter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) has returned its first data to groundstations. Initial assessments indicate everything is working correctly and thespacecraft is now ready to begin a three-year mission.
中国的暗物质粒子探测器将第一批数据输送回地面站。初步分析后表明一切运作正常,现在这艘航天器已经做好准备进行为期三年的任务。
DAMPE, which isalso known as Wukong, after the monkey king in the Chinese fairytale Journey tothe West, blasted off on 17 December from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center,Gansu province. Carried on a Long March 2D booster, the spacecraft was placedin a 500km-altitude orbit.
这艘暗物质粒子探测器也叫做“悟空”,即《西游记》中的齐天大圣,在12月17号于酒泉卫星发射中心升空。由长征2D火箭发射,该航天器被放置在500公里高的轨道上。
Signals and datareceived shortly afterwards show that the spacecraft is working as expected andthat the data is good quality, accordingto China’s Xinhua News Agency.
之后接收到的信号和数据表明该航空器运行正常,而数据的质量也很高,新华社报道。

It's not nicethough: The theory of gravity works so well ! Making it not work any more makeslots of other problems.

DAMPE was builtby the Chinese Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the University ofGeneva, Switzerland, and Italy’s Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare.
Nice to seeinternational co-operation in the sciences. Always makes the politcos'blow-harding seem a bit irrelevant compared with the human quest to explore theuniverse, which needs no nationalistic barriers.

Indeed. I thinkits high time the US ended its embargo on cooperation with China in spaceexploration. We cooperate with Russia, we should cooperate with China. Evenfiction and Hollywood now has emergency situations where we might have to replyon the Chinese to help, Gravity, The Martian.
If China isserious about Mars in 30 years, we should work with them, all shoulders to thewheel of human endeavor.

Its"amazing" (to quote Brian Cox) that what constitutes 85% of the universeis a complete unknown, a total mystery. So much for the fairly common delusionwe know most everything.
None locality ofmatter, virtual states, what the hell is going on? Even Einstein was deeplytroubled.
Yes, evolutionexplains how we evolved from the family tree of life, but no one, anywhere, canreally explain how the massive complexity of the most primitive life formssuddenly popped into a far too high organisation from the chaos of complexmatter to exist as life. We are as far from explaining that as teleportingpeople inside holiday pods to Alpha Century.

"Darkmatter" so far has no more reality than phlogiston. Or "ether".Or we now understand the "force" of gravity. All were superceded bycompletely different understandings that began to make more sense and it maybethat a huge revolutionary shift in physics is presaged by this inexplicable setof facts about galaxy spin etc.
“暗物质”目前来看并不比“燃素”更真实。我们现在对重力的“力量”有所了解。但是人们的认知在不断变化,一系列无法解释的星系事实可能预示着物理学将发生革命性的改变。

I agree, its anempty term, as is dark energy. But 100 years ago we thought we knew most ofwhat existed, now we know we don't know the half of it. Fascinating discoveriesahead, though they seem to merely increase the horizon of mystery.
