Thousands of people across three US stateswatched the night sky in awe on Wednesday as mystery fireballs streaked past.

Many feared they could be a planedisintegrating while others guessed it was a meteor shower.

有不少人担心这是飞机解体或可能是流星雨。

It was later revealed the objects ablaze —seen in Utah, Nevada and Californiia — were debris from the Chinese rocketlaunched last month and were travelling at around 18,000mph, about 50 milesoverhead, the LA Times reported.

It was later revealed the objects ablaze —seen in Utah, Nevada and Californiia — were debris from a Chinese rocket launch

The launch, which began a new era inChinese rocketry, re-entered the atmosphere after a month in low orbit,astronomer Jonathan McDowell, of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center forAstrophysics, told the Times. 

天文学家哈佛-史密森天体物理中心的乔纳森麦克道尔告诉泰晤士报，这是中国的新一代火箭，在低轨道运行一个月后，重入大气层的结果。

'Something this big enters in anuncontrolled way probably once a month,' McDowell told the Times.

'Mostly they fall into the ocean — theEarth is a big place. The chance that you get one at night, over the U.S. attime when people look at the sky — it is relatively low.'

Onlookers were stunned as the flamingobjects, which resembled comets, were seen flying over LoneMountain Park, with other witness also spotting them in southern Californiaand Utah.

One man who filmed the jaw-droppingspectacle can be heard exclaiming: 'This is unreal. What is that? What is that?

'I don't know what that is. Well obviouslyit's something entering the atmosphere but I've never seen anything like thatbefore.'

Debris was flying at a bout 18,000mph some50 miles overhead, an expert said

Onlookers were stunned as the flamingobjects, which resembled comets, were seen flying over Lone Mountain Park, withother witness also spotting them in southern California and Utah

Shortly after the man posted his videoonline, people quickly began to form ideas on what the mysterious object couldbe.

A sensible suggestion was that thefireballs were part of the annual meteor shower DeltaAquarid, which peaks between July 27 and 29.

一个比较靠谱的提议是，这个火球是一年一次的Delta Aquarid流星雨的一部分，Delta Aquarid流星雨通常在7月27日至29这段时间出现。

However, astronomers have said that thiswas unlikely because the object was not moving at a quick enough speed.

以前我曾写过一个短篇小说，是关于坠毁的不明飞行物的。这个飞行物上面写满了外星文字，后来人们把这些外星字输进超级电脑去分析。经过六个月的缜密计算，最后得出，这上面写的原来都TMD是汉字，这玩意是中国造的。 ：）。
