The separatist movement in Catalonia’s parliament has escalated its battle with Madrid after it defied Spain’s constitutional court by debating a controversial pro-independence roadmap and the region’s president announced a confidence vote to consolidate the move towards sovereignty.

If theh think they can go at it alone and have the populations backing for independence good luck to them. 
Btw Guardian editors can we try and move on i realise Brexit was awful and has meant big changes. But please stop harping on about it. We lost and surely should be at the 'how do we move forward'stage instead of stuck in continual loop stage. 
And i say this as someone that voted remain.

Lies repeated a thousand times do not become truth. What Spaniards do not want is that the catalonian separatists unilaterally break the Constitution bypassing the law. First amend the Constitution according to democratic legal procedures and then no problem with the celebration of indyrendum. By the way separatists are 48% so no most of catalonians are pro remain in Spain. In the other hand Catalonia has never been a colony. What Spain did was did by catalonians among other spaniards.

I find it truly amazing an depressing how Spanish and British imperialists here think that somehow the EU can be used as an instrument of their repressive desires onto their neighbors and fellow Europeans. It is exactly to protect people from your small-minded malice that the European Ideal came to be that founded our unx. If you are not willing to respect the people of Catalunya or Alba it is you who do not deserve to be in our midst.
