Investors in the United Kingdom and UnitedStates own two-thirds of Australia’s foreign-owned agricultural land, thegovernment’s new land register has revealed.

英美投资者在澳洲的外国拥有农地中占据了三分之二的比重，澳洲政府披露。

The first report of the registry of foreignownership of agricultural land, to be released on Wednesday, shows that 13.6%of Australia’s 385m hectares of agricultural land is foreign-owned.

于周三发布的首份外国拥有权的农地登记报告显示，澳洲3.85亿亩农地中有13.6%为外国人所有。

Of the 52.1m hectares of land that areforeign-owned, UK investors account for 27.5m hectares, almost 53%.

在这5210万亩外国人所拥有的农地中，英国投资者占据了2750万亩，几乎占据了53%。

US investors own 7.7m hectares, followed bythe Netherlands (2.98m) and Singapore (1.9m).

Despite a strong media focus on Chineseinvestment, China onlycomes in fifth at 1.5m hectares. Chinese holdings represent less than 0.5% ofthe total agricultural land across the country.

In April, the treasurer, ScottMorrison, blockedthe sale of Australia’s largest landholder S Kidman & Co to amajority Chinese-owned consortium because it “may be contrary to the nationalinterest”.

The $370m sale would have significantlyboosted Chinese holdings, as the S Kidman & Co property comprises 2.5% ofAustralia’s agricultural land.

No wonder the US and UK raised the Chinesethreat regularly in Australia. The Chinese come with load of cash, and they arewilling to offer the highest bid. If you can't beat them, then play dirty,smear their names. The only fools and losers here are the Australians who haveto sell their lands and resources to the cheapest bidders.

Absolutely nothing to do with racism mate.I don't care where the investment comes from, no foreign entity should own morethan 49% of any Australian asset. To sell it off is short-sighted and abetrayal of Australia, now, and for future generations.

My objection is not so much, racism, butsuspicion, I feel any country that has aggressively taken over and force theirauthority on much smaller neighbouring countries, as it has also done in theSth China Seas islands, who has had a military build up of approx. 50% inrecent years, in time of relative global peace, should be treated and viewedwith a fair amount of suspicion and apprehension.

And not allowing Australia to buy anyfarms, mines, infrastructure, ports or realestate in China is notprotectionism?
If it were truly free-trade, Australiawould not allow China to buy any Australian assets until the same rules appliedto allow Australians to buy Chinese assets.
