China has passed a law that bans film content deemed harmful to the “dignity honour and interests” of the country. It also encourages the promotion of “socialist core values”.

Booming box-office receipts have drawn Hollywood studios and a growing Chinese film-making industry into fierce competition for the Asian giant’s movie market which some analysts predict will soon eclipse that of the US.

The new laws govern the promotion of the film industry and were approved by the National People’s Congress standing committee at a meeting in Beijing.

The law states that its aim is to “spread core socialist values” enrich the masses’ spiritual and cultural life and set ground rules for the industry.

China simply put is a Communist regime . It is controlled by a tyrannical communist party. This new edict or law is an exact example of that tyranny.

ethelfrida while it could certainly be argued that the current Chinese state with its tolerance of free enterprise is not run according to Communist principles it is simply a fact that during the latter part of the 20th century - that is during the mass atrocities of the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward - China was most certainly a Communist state in theory and in practice.

Gee Chinese lawmakers maybe if you wanted people to better serve socialism you could start with yourselves; clean up your rivers clean up your factories create unxs that actually care for and work for their members' benefits get rid of lead in products plant more trees to deal with smog deal better with smog and a whole host of other conducts and policies that actually are for the public good!

Look guys you are trying to convince people who for over a hundred years have been subjected to the most sophisticated advertising techniques imaginable; heck we for example KNOW diamonds aren't actually as rare as DeBeers says we KNOW 'three months' salary' is what DeBeers made up as a 'good rule' for "how much money should you spend on a diamond;" we KNOW all that we do and yet we still fall for it! That's the standard boys and frankly China isn't even up to 'Butter Crackers" standards! (Look up WHY that didn't work and why there is no such product available). All that talk about the long march and winning formula may work in China however as you want to play in the big leagues you gotta learn the ropes! First lesson English grammar is not the same as Chinese; second contact Madison Avenu---actually that's ALL you need to do. Contact Madison Avenue hucksters pay them big bucks to improve your China-centric Internet postings and watch in awe as you convince Westerners of all sorts that hey the People's Republic of China is the 'last best hope of Mankind." Believe me for enough US Treasury bills you will get that job done consistently expertly and well!
