A Chinese shopping mall is ringing in the year of the rooster by erecting a giant sculpture of a chicken they claim looks like Donald Trump.

The cartoon pastiche of the president-elect complete with orange pompadour has gone on display at a shopping centre in Taiyuan the capital of the northern province of Shanxi.

The scowling statue is one of many roosters popping up around the country as it prepares to celebrate the lunar new year at the end of January.

With its wings mirroring Trump's distinctive hand gestures replicas of the bird are available on the Chinese shopping site Taobao for as much as 12000 yuan ($1700) for a 10m version.

这尊雕塑的翅膀生动表现了特朗普的典型手势，其十米长的仿制品在中国购物网站淘宝网上卖价1万两千元（约合1700美金）。

Trump has captured the Chinese imagination and riled its authorities with his threats on about massive tariffs on Chinese exports.
