China’s economy has grown at its slowest rate in more than a quarter-century as Beijing braces itself for an uncertain outlook that could see a trade stand-off withDonald Trump.

After a tumultuous start to 2016 the country’s leaders used huge monetary stimulus to steer the world’s number two economy to hit their annual target and also record the first quarterly pick-up in two years.

The Asian superpower is a crucial driver of global growth but Beijing is trying to reduce its heavy reliance on exports and state-backed investment and instead focus on domestic consumer spending to drive expansion.

Cant last forever and the fact that the global economy is tied up to the Chinese is worrying. What are we hoping to achieve as a nationas the UK economically? What sort of live do we want our grandchildren to live? These are the sort of things we need to ask and plan for not taking advice of hedge fund managers and corrupt and greedy bankers.

Does anyone actually believe the figures China puts up for economic growth? Or anything for that matter?
Printing and spending money while manipulating interest rates and paying kickbacks for contracts does not growth make.

We really need to stop playing this game " the number has to be around 7% or else..." because its ridiculous. The Chinese growth according to all credible sources/ is around 2% this year. Its the same kind of number-running operation that made up out of thin air enough money to run this scam for one more year and make the 43 trillion bubble into the 66 one that the world now faces.
We need some reality back in the picture or the crash will be sobering...

After WWII West German growth was around 3-5% The Soviets took the slash-and-burn approach to the loot in East Germany and never got the economy growing. Coupled with the European Marshall Plan Western Europe got on its feet. That's when the US had the reputation for being good guys. We've kinda squandered that. But 6% per year is about doubling up the size of the economy every 11 years or so. West Germany and Japan recovered just fine at 3-4% per year.

6.7%? God Hammond has wet dreams about a growth rate of 6.7%! Having said that what did people expect? China's economy to just continue to grow at double digit figures forever?!

6.7?神TM6.7%!

You must be fools if you believe economic growth can increase each year... the bizarre thing is it makes headline news when a country's GDP fails to live up to expectations of the markets.

From a low level per capita it's perfectly possible. China have also had the added benefit of watching from the West's many mistakes. Oh it won't and can't last but it will continue to be well ahead of the West until they catch up.

How does everyone keep being surprised by the slower growth rates? The Chinese state has been saying for years the growth will slow down. If anything it's a normalization of the growth.

It seems that we are blind to the realities of exponential growth.

6.7% growth in the Chinese economy is dubbed as a disappointing slowdown. To understand the scale of exponential growth divide the number 70 by the annual growth percentage. The result is the number of years it will take the initial sum to double. So to maintain this disappointing level of growth China will have to DOUBLE it's $11 trillion dollar economy in the next ten years. And keep doing so forever.

Anyone sense a level of implausibility? Chasing constant percentage growth is a mirage that cannot be transferred to the finite reality of life on Earth. 2.5% growth was seen as fairly poor in recent years in the U.K. Our instincts tell us that 2.5% growth means very little change a kind of minimal growth that just about stops us from totally stagnating. In fact 2.5% growth means the entire U.K. economy needs to double its GDP every 28 years.

You can't keep it up.

Its BS the provinces overstate their business metrics so does central government. Best indicator is energy demand...well down as is shipping freight and aircraft sectors flown. Talk with biz leaders and same message order books down...except for a totally crazy housing bubble....

We shouldn't forget that China has a lot of unused capital. During their economic boom they built a lot of infrastructure which couldn't survive on a commercial basis. It's only a matter of time before they have to pay the consequences of wanton development. China's 'ghost towns' are an example of that.

I wonder how the people of West Virginia will take to withdrawal of Obama-Care. They are surely the population who most need state provided social support services within the entire USA. Trump's cabinet is packed with globalists $40billion of them. Contradictions abound.
Only 1461 days to go to the next one. We must sit back and relax while we await the 2018 congressional elections. They will be interesting.

No economy can keep up double-digit growth rates forever. China and the other East Asian economies all started from a very low base and growth was propelled by dued currencies export-led growth and massive infrastructure investment and development. As the economies become mature this will slow down as you can only build the M1 Heathrow Airport the Thames Barrier once; subsequent investment would simply be replacement investment. That is why they are called 'developing' economies.
Mind you I bet the Eurozone wouldn't say no to growth rates of 6.7%.

Britain's growth is actually 0.5% far from the 2% indicated by false statistics based on fanciful maths adding average year quarter percentages instead of a mean percentage.
Nevertheless it's poor performance from China! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
