The name 'Bao Bao' translates to 'precious' or 'treasure' which is exactly what this three-year-old panda has been at the Washington Smithsonian's National Zoo. 

"BaoBao" 翻译为宝贵、珍品，而这只三岁熊猫在华盛顿史密森尼国家动物园的地位就是如此。

But now her fans have to say goodbye as Bao Bao is moving to Chengdy China on February 21.

Bao Bao was born on August 23 2013 and visitors flocked to the National Zoo in Northwest Washington to get a glimpse of the panda cub during her first public debut in January 2014.

She is headed back to her ancestral home due to a longstanding agreement between zoos in China and the United States and the National Zoo has prepared for her departure since she was born.

I don't get it. China gave us two pandas in 1972 and any offspring must be returned to China to breed? The 1972 pandas aren't still alive are they? In any case this is a dumb custom that should end. Shipping these poor pandas in a crate(!) for a very long plane ride during which they will be terrified is cruel and unnecessary. China should let us keep the pandas and they should breed their own. There are other ways our countries can develop goodwill that do not involve being cruel to animals.
