Life is difficult in many places. On the one hand they have their grandparents who are relatively young doting on them and they are not living in a big city yet what has struck me is how absolutely dirty most of the children are and one lad in particular whose hands and skin reveal malnutrition. Another photo that struck one for a different reason is the photo of the school children at the school gate which isn't much different to the 'Western' world. Many mums in the Western World leave their children in nursery very young sometimes from the age of 3 months as they need to work at least these children are with their grandparents.

I think we have to have some sympathy for the grandparents too. It's not easy bringing up small children when you're young and fit never mind when you're old. I imagine the parents send money back to help with the costs of bringing the children up but it'd still be really hard.

Grandparents are doing a good job. Its not their fault they are poor. There is a bond between grandparents and their grandchildren and they can pass on family history and other stories. My Mother and her sisters learned a lot when they had to be looked after by my greatgrandmother when my grandmother was widowed and had to scratch around for work.

In any country where the cities have a huge income inequality between cities and the country - this is a problem. My understanding is that China has a green card system to control the number of people migrating to the cites but there are always loopholes The cities rely on cheap labour. its called the hukou system which determines where families are allowed to live. easier to just build a wall.
