A controversial technique that lets scientists 'edit' genes in a human embryo has been successfully used for the first time in the US.

The effort involved changing the DNA of a group one-cell human embryos with the 'cut and paste' gene-editing technique known as CRISPR.

通过一种被称作CRISPR(Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats,常间回文重复序列丛集--译者注)的基因编辑技术进行“剪切和粘贴”来尝试修改一组单个人类胚胎细胞。

The technique means the next generation may benefit from powerful gene therapies that can dexe or repair flawed genes.

It could act as a golden bullet for diseases like cancer HIV and genetic conditions such as Huntington's disease.

But some countries have signed a convention prohibiting the practice based on concerns it could be used to create 'designer babies'.

Not religious but why do pro genetic engineering brigade always resort to religion. You dont need a god to tell you this is incorrect thinking and will eventually be used as a tool to oppress humanity. Cant people see further than their nose ?scientists are nobodys friends there just uncontrolled egos who act out their ego driven fantasies regardless of consequences

Lol nxt ya gonna b spouting on about the evils of electricity....... WHY should people suffer needlessly because of people like u.... Can you give me a coherent reason why it's incorrect thinking?? I suspect not.. instead your imposing your outraged ethics on others. I do not agree with you at all

I genuinely fail to see why the god bothering brigade prefer to see children born with crippling genetic diseases rather than accept curing these diseases pre-birth. It is telling that modern medicine now routinely produces hundreds of thousands of 'miracles' every single day and this will only increase that figure.
