Cooking with vegetable oil releases toxic chemicals linked to cancer and even the degeneration of the brain, according to experts.

Lard, butter, coconut and olive oil are all better dietary choices, leading scientists have said - in advice which directly contradicts the NHS.

When heated, corn, sunflower, palm and soya bean oils - often called "vegetable" oils -  release chemicals called aldehydes which have been linked to various cancers and neurogenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's.

Martin Grootveld, a professor of bioanalytical chemistry and chemical pathology at DeMontfort University,said that a meal fried in vegetable oil such as fish and chips contains 100 to 200 times more aldehydes than the daily limit set by the World Health Organisation (WHO), according to the Daily Telegraph.

Yes to olive oil; however you can get its benefits without spending too much if you buy a high-oleic oil such as modified safflower.
NO to coconut oil. It blocks arteries. I tried using it and within weeks had cardiac symptoms. Switched back to high oleic and the symptoms cleared up.

Interesting.  About ten years ago a friend suggested I take some butter, put it on a plate, do the same with some soft margarine and place both outside on a summers day.  The butter attracted flies and all manner of wildlife, the margarine, not a thing.  He was right.  Tried it on our dog who loved the butter but would not touch the margarine?

Nothing "gives" you cancer. It's a matter of probability based on the amount of cell damage you take over your lifetime.
I'd rather enjoy my life than creep around with my tail between my legs worried about misleading statistics.

Aren't coconut and olive oil vegetable oils anyway? Coconut oil used to have a bad reputation as most sold for cooking was hydrogenated which is high in saturated fat, but virgin oil is better for you, although often quite expensive. It's about 20 Pounds for a jar in well known health food shops.

难道椰子油、橄榄油都不算植物油?椰子油已经臭名远播了啊,烹饪用的椰子油含有非常多的饱和脂肪,初榨橄榄油才是健康的,虽然很贵。商店里一桶就要20英磅。

Cold pressed coconut oil is very healthy. We now know that saturated fat doesn't cause heart disease, so that's not an issue either. Saturated fat comprises as much as 60-80% of the human brain.
The best bet is to return to the natural foods of our forefathers: natural saturated fats like lard for frying, butter on your bread and whole milk on your cereal/ in your coffee.

冷轧椰子油非常健康。而且已经发现饱和脂肪并不会导致心脏病,所以这个也不是问题啦。人类大脑60%到80%都是饱和脂肪组成的。

Britain's dairy farmers were doing really well in the 1950s. But the industry had to be destroyed so that we could fit into the EU. Bring in 3-in-1 multipurpose oil and other culinary and health disasters.
Anything else? Breathing? Eating air could be dangerous! I always use olive oil so not too bothered, but just about anything nowadays is a 'health hazard'. It won't be long before we are banned from growing our own veg - just like the USA!

My wife decided to cut Rapeseed oil ( no other oils) out of our diet over 2 months ago as she felt it was making us continually bloated.  Last week she went out and I cooked myself a meal with rapeseed oil in the sauce and the following day paid a very heavy price!  She may be right.

It does NOT cause atherosclerosis.
It is high in calories, however, and if you eat too much of it, you can put on weight.
People with a normal weight should feel absolutely free to eat this delicious foodstuff.
I'm afraid I spread it on scones as thickly as cream cheese.

I agree. A nutritionist I know says that butter is preferable to most vegetable oils or products made from them. They never use margarine.

Butter is far better for your health than plastic margarines/ spreads like Benecol and Flora - which are GREY in colour before they're dyed yellow and are only one molecule away from plastic!
Furthermore, butter is packed full of essential fat-soluble vitamins, as is whole milk. If you buy tasteless 'semi-skimmed'or 'skimmed' milk you're preventing your body from absorbing these key key vitamins. It's therefore highly advisable to switch from margarine/ spreads to butter, and from semi-skimmed or skimmed milk to whole milk.

黄油比用树脂做的人造黄油健康多了。比如Benecol和Flora这两个牌子的人造黄油,在没有添加色素之前其实是灰白色的,而且分子结构跟塑料只差一点点。
