'We discovered instances of studentinterns working overtime at a supplier facility in China. We've confirmed thestudents worked voluntarily, were compensated and provided benefits, but theyshould not have been allowed to work overtime,' Apple said in a statement.

Apple and Foxconn have been accused ofpoor labour practices in the past, but the U.S. technology giant has beentrying to get a grip of such issues, releasing annual reviews of the iPhonesupply chain.

The violations announced this week come asthe company is stretching to meet demand for its new iPhone X, which beganshipping this month.

An earlier report by the Financial Timescited six students who worked overtime at the plant as saying the programme wasrequired for them to graduate.

'Our policies do not allow interns to workmore than 40 hours per week on programme-related assignments.
'Unfortunately, there have been a numberof cases where portions of our campuses have not adhered to this policy,'Foxconn said in a statement, adding that the interns accounted for a small partof the workforce.

Apple's statement said that the companyhad sent staff to the site to address the violations.

Since 2012 Apple says it has reduced thenumber of underage workers in its extended supply chain, which includeslocations where rare earth minerals are mined for use in the smartphones.

If Apple cared one iota about breakinglabor laws they would move their manufacturing bad to the States, where the laware enforced. All they really care about is how much it cost to produce, howmuch they will make, and do it as cheaply as possible, even if it means theirsupplier gets get every once in while breaking laws?

Selling a phone that costs about 50 bitsto make for 1000. Gold mines needed slaves.

Scotty Mac,Hong Kong, Hong Kong, about 11 hours agoYou have no idea where the profit marginsre made on many such products and it is NOT the factory owners, it is thetechnology companies who make significant profits in their own markets and thetax avoidance overseas in Ireland and Luxembourg.

For everyone outside the liberalbubble....Underage workers = Child Labor.

But of course they only found this outafter they'd already made enough products for the launch and the subsequentyears demand.

The phone made via slave labour is the onechampioned by the Starbucks drinking social justice warriors who bang on abouthow they are disadvantaged in the West for any new reason invented at any time.
